Jewelry Care
Caring for Your Keepsake
Your Rae Shields piece is a wearable story, a tangible piece of your heart. To ensure it remains a beautiful heirloom for years to come, we encourage you to treat it with the same love and care that went into its creation. Here are our tips for preserving its beauty.
Daily Care: Simple Best Practices
Think of these as simple habits to protect your jewelry's integrity and shine.
- Protect from Moisture: Keep your piece dry. We recommend removing it before showering, bathing, swimming in pools or saltwater, and doing the dishes.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Apply lotions, perfumes, soaps, and hairsprays before putting on your jewelry. Avoid contact with household cleaning supplies and chlorine.
- Remove During Strenuous Activity: Take off your keepsake before exercising, gardening, cleaning, or any activity where it might be bumped, snagged, or exposed to sweat.
- Be Mindful of Snags: As with all fine jewelry, delicate pieces require gentle handling. Be mindful when wearing nubby sweaters or holding "grabby babies" that could catch on your piece.
Cleaning & Storing Your Jewelry
- How to Clean: To restore its shine, gently rub your piece with the complimentary anti-tarnish polishing cloth included with your order. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or abrasives.
- How to Store: When not wearing your jewelry, store it in a dry, safe place. For daily storage, a sealed plastic bag works wonderfully to prevent tarnish. For long-term storage, an anti-tarnish jewelry box is an excellent choice.
- Pro Tip: Never store your jewelry in the bathroom, as the humidity can speed up the tarnishing process.
A Note on Our Materials & Natural Wear
- Embracing Your Story: Like any beloved object, your jewelry will show signs of its journey with you. Fine scratches and small marks are a natural part of wear and a testament to the life you've lived. They don't detract from the piece; they add to its unique story—your story.
- Sterling Silver: Sterling silver is a precious metal that naturally oxidizes (tarnishes) over time with exposure to air and your body’s unique chemistry. This is completely normal. Regular polishing with your cloth will keep it bright and beautiful.
